This year, Micklefield marks a proud milestone: 97 years since its founding in July 1928 by Miss Jill Wilson (later Mrs Ingram) and Miss Tish Beazley, who began with just three pupils in a tiny Rondebosch cottage—Grange Cottage on Gables Road.
Since moving to Sandown Road in 1933 and adopting the name Micklefield, our school has grown in both spirit and community.
Our Birthday Week promises to be a week of heartfelt celebration, continuing our rich legacy of community outreach.
Join us as we honour nearly a century of nurturing young hearts and minds—with gratitude for every pupil, teacher, and family who has made our “little school with a big heart” what it is today.

A reminder to all music parents that ensemble practices take place every Friday.
It is essential that students bring their instruments and attend these rehearsals as they are working towards the upcoming Music Evening on Tuesday, 19 August.
If your child is unable to attend a rehearsal for any reason, please ensure their music teacher is informed. Every session counts as we prepare for a wonderful performance.
This is a reminder that Junior Choir will now take place on Monday mornings at 7:15am, starting from Monday 11 August.
We appreciate your support in ensuring the girls arrive on time, ready to sing and start the week on a musical note.
Our Grade 7s will be running a Snack Pack for the Grade 4–7 cast members during Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Saturday rehearsals, starting on Saturday, 23 August.
Details and pricing will be shared via the KARRI app next week, so keep an eye out! 🍫🎭
The Peninsula School Feeding Association’s annual Blisters for Bread walk, now in its 57th year, is more than just a community event—it’s a powerful movement against childhood hunger.
Join hundreds of Capetonians on Sunday, 31 August 2025, as we walk 5 km (starting at 08:00) or 10 km (starting at 07:30) along the scenic Sea Point Promenade, beginning on Stephan Way and ending at the Green Point Common Sports Ground.
With a modest entry fee of R100, each walker helps provide breakfast and lunch for 20 schoolchildren in need, turning footsteps into nourishing meals and brighter futures.

Join us for a fun-filled afternoon on Saturday, 25 October 2025, from 3:00–8:00pm on the school grounds.
This much-loved community event will feature exciting stalls run by every grade, delicious treats, creative games, entertainment, and a joyful atmosphere for the whole family.
The Grade 0s are asking all families to donate gently used books – for all ages – to the secondhand book stall.
To make it extra fun, we’re turning it into a House Competition.
Will it be the Robins, Kingfishers, or Swallows who come out on top?
You can donate books by dropping them off at the back of the hall, in your house box.
Start clearing those shelves and let’s see which house can build the biggest book mountain! 📖💪
The Grade 3s are gearing up for their Bric-a-Brac Stall, and we’re calling on all families to help fill the tables.
We’re collecting good-quality, pre-loved treasures — think:
Drop your donations off in the foyer of the hall, and help us turn clutter into cash for a good cause.
Mickayla House & Aquatics Centre – Project Update
Planning for the exciting Mickayla House (the new ECD centre named after the special Grade 00 bear) and Micklefield Aquatics Centre development is moving forward. Our architects are currently working on the traffic assessment, a key step before we can begin the formal and often lengthy process of getting the plans approved by the city.
At this stage, we do not yet have a final costing, as this will only be confirmed once the plans have been officially approved, but we are looking at between 8 and 10 million to start with. We are committed to keeping our community informed and will continue to share updates as the project progresses.
Thank you for your ongoing support as we work toward creating these inspiring new spaces for our girls.
Our U9 A and B netball girls took part in a festival held at Pinehurst Primary on Friday, 1 August. The girls played so well in freezing conditions. The A team played 3 matches, drawing 2 and losing 1 and the B team played 4 matches, winning all of them. Well done girls.
On Saturday, 2 August, the U12A and U13A teams played in a netball tournament held at Bergvliet Primary.
Each team played 5 matches in a round robin system with both our teams making the finals.
The U12 team lost 0-2 to Oakhurst in a well-fought match and the U13 team beat Timour Hall in a tense final to bring home the trophy. Excellent netball, girls, well played.
Grade 4 had a fantastic outing to the Aquarium. We learnt about different skeletons and even creatures without skeletons. It was a great learning experience.
What a delightful morning we had at the Grade 3 Showcase.
The girls impressed us all with their confidence, creativity, and enthusiasm as they shared songs, poetry, and highlights from their learning journey this term.
It was a true celebration of their growth and spirit, and we are so proud of each one of them. Thank you to all the teachers who teach Grade 3 for guiding the girls so beautifully, and to all the parents for your ongoing support and encouragement.
Laura, in Grade 6, is part of the Cape Town Children’s Choir. They had the honour of singing for Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis and the City of Cape Town Council members during their meeting in the Council Chambers on Wednesday, 30 July.
Well done to Juliette on an excellent Recorder solo performance in assembly
