Roblox: What is it and how to protect your child

It’s essential to recognize that many children nowadays spend their free time playing online games such as Roblox. They play with friends from school, friends from other schools, and even strangers. As parents, it’s understandable if you’re not familiar with Roblox and what it involves.

I want to share two links, one from the Common Sense website and the other from Klikd. Both not only explain what Roblox is but also offer valuable tips for parents on how to protect their children while they’re gaming.

The Common Sense website is a fantastic resource that allows parents to review the content of games, movies, books, TV series, apps, and podcasts before their children engage with them. It’s worth noting that while the Film and Publication Board works hard to ensure accurate age restrictions, these guidelines may not always align with the perspectives of today’s parents. While the Klikd app/website is a very useful tool for both parents and teens. It provides education on cyber safety with a practical “how-to” approach, rather than just warning about the dangers.

Reminder about our knitting drive!!! We are running this drive until the end of the third term, so keep knitting to donate to the Knitting Fairies!

We were very excited to welcome Maureen Edmund back to the school for a visit this week. Maureen was one of Micklefield’s first recruits back in 1934.

Silver Linings Conference

On 31 August 2024 Micklefield School will proudly be hosting their 8th Foundation Phase Conference for 130 teachers in the area from both State and Independent Schools.

The Micklefield Conference has the reputation for “spoiling” the delegates with special touches, exciting prizes and indulgent goody bags.

We would be most appreciative of a donation of items for goodie bags (130) or for individual spot prizes for these teachers. Items could include beauty products (samples), magazines, sweets and chocolates, stationery, weekend getaways, vouchers, wine, food and drinks etc.

For more information about the conference you can contact Jacki Steffen on silverlinings@micklefield.co.za
