Theme Week is always a much-anticipated highlight on the Micklefield calendar—and this year was no exception.
With the theme “The Wonders of Nature,” our school was buzzing with curiosity, creativity, and a deep appreciation for the natural world. From interactive workshops and hands-on activities to thought-provoking discussions and joyful explorations, the girls immersed themselves in learning about the beauty, power, and importance of the environment around us.
It was a week filled with wonder, discovery, and moments that sparked both imagination and reflection.
Our Foundation Phase girls (Grades 00–3) had an unforgettable encounter with the wild and wonderful world of reptiles this term.
Wide eyes and curious questions filled the room as the girls came face-to-face with an array of scaly creatures—including snakes, monitor lizards, and more. The hands-on reptile show was both educational and thrilling, as the girls learned fascinating facts about these cold-blooded animals, their habitats, and how to stay safe around them. There were gasps, giggles, and a few brave touches too. A big thank you to the presenters for such a memorable experience.
This week, our senior girls took part in a beautiful Floriography Workshop, where they discovered the secret language of flowers.
They learnt how, in Victorian times, flowers were used to convey messages and emotions without saying a word. Inspired by this tradition, each girl created her own tussie-mussie—a small, hand-tied bouquet filled with blooms carefully chosen for their symbolic meanings.
The activity was both creative and reflective, as the girls thoughtfully selected flowers to represent friendship, joy, gratitude, and more. The result? Beautiful little posies with heartfelt messages, created with care and carried home with pride.
Our Foundation Phase girls (Grades 1–3) enjoyed an exciting and educational outing to the Aquarium. From the moment they walked through the doors, there was a buzz of excitement as they explored the wonders of the ocean world. The girls were mesmerised by the graceful jellyfish, amazed by the sharks gliding through the water, and completely charmed by the cheeky, waddling penguins.
The visit beautifully complemented their classroom learning and sparked endless curiosity about marine life. It was a day filled with wide eyes, thoughtful questions, and joyful discovery. The girls returned to school with big smiles, wonderful memories, and a deeper appreciation for the creatures of the sea.
Our girls enjoyed a wonderfully calming and educational Essential Oils Workshop, where they explored the benefits of natural oils and the art of self-care.
They learned about the different properties of essential oils—like lavender for relaxation and peppermint for focus—and how these can support wellbeing. A highlight of the session was learning how to give gentle hand massages, using a blend of oils to practise mindfulness and care.
The room was filled with beautiful scents, soothing music, and plenty of smiles, as the girls embraced this sensory experience with curiosity and enthusiasm.
This week, our Foundation Phase girls enjoyed a special Class Rotation Day, where they had the chance to visit a different classroom and take part in a fun, hands-on activity with each of our Foundation Phase teachers. The excitement was contagious as the girls moved between grades, experiencing new spaces, faces, and creative challenges.
In Grade 00, Mrs Riley guided the girls through a bright and zesty citrus stamping craft.
Over in Grade 0, Mrs Pattison helped them get their hands messy with clay as they made adorable bee cups.
With Mrs Nunneley in Grade 1, the girls learned all about recycling and built imaginative recycled rockets.
And in Grade 2, Mrs Meredith led a planting activity where the girls planted chia seeds and learned about caring for living things.
It was a joyful day of discovery, creativity, and cross-grade connection—one the girls won’t soon forget
In the Grade 3 classroom, Mrs Steffen took the girls on an imaginative dive beneath the waves as they explored a world of weird and wonderful sea creatures. Inspired by their discoveries, the girls worked in groups to create vibrant underwater artwork, filled with colour, creativity, and ocean life.
Our Grade 4–7 girls enjoyed a lively and enriching morning packed with learning and laughter.
The fun kicked off with a challenging round of Nature Bingo, where the girls had to answer nature-themed questions correctly to identify and cross off terms on their bingo cards, putting their knowledge and quick thinking to the test.
This was followed by a fast-paced general knowledge quiz, where teams worked together to tackle a wide range of fun and tricky questions.
To end the day on a creative note, the girls took to the stage for a series of entertaining drama presentations, showcasing their imagination, teamwork, and flair for performance.
Overall, it was a fantastic day of brainpower, bonding, and big smiles all around.
Our Family Groups—made up of Grade 1 to 7 girls—enjoyed a morning of collaboration, connection, and fun as they rotated through three lively activity stations: Balloon Volleyball, Charades and Marshmallow Construction.
At the Balloon Volleyball station, teamwork took centre stage as the girls worked together to keep their balloons afloat and volley them over the “net.” Laughter echoed through the hall as older and younger girls encouraged one another and played with great spirit.
Over at Charades, the creativity flowed. From animals to actions, the girls acted out clues while their group guessed with enthusiasm and energy. It was a fantastic way to build confidence, imagination, and connection across the grades.
At the final station, Marshmallow Construction, the girls were challenged to work as a team to build the tallest or strongest structures using only marshmallows and toothpicks. The results were equal parts impressive and delicious.
It was a joyful day of learning through play, strengthening friendships, and celebrating the special bond across our Micklefield family.
Our Grade 4–7 girls took sustainability to the runway in our fabulous Trashion Show.
Using recycled materials and heaps of imagination, the girls designed and created one-of-a-kind outfits made entirely from ‘trash’—think newspaper skirts, plastic packet capes, and bottle-top accessories.
They proudly modelled their creations in a high-energy fashion show for the whole school, showcasing not just their creativity but also the importance of reusing and recycling.
The audience cheered as each model strutted down the runway, proving that eco-conscious can be incredibly stylish. It was a celebration of innovation, confidence, and caring for our planet—Micklefield style.
We ended our Theme Week: The Wonders of Nature on a high note—celebrating creativity, collaboration, and school spirit.
The Grade 4–7 classes put their unique spin on the natural world by writing and performing their own Nature Raps. From ecosystems to animal facts, the lyrics were clever, catchy, and full of personality.
Grade 6
To top it all off, the entire school came together for a lively Dance Challenge, filling the hall with energy, laughter, and joyful movement. It was the perfect way to wrap up a week of exploration and discovery, reminding us just how wonderful—and fun—nature can be.
