2023 Sport & Extra-Mural Programme

The 2023 sport and extra-mural programme is now available on the Edana App, under Documentation.  Please check both the Term 1 and 4 (Summer) and the Term 2 and 3 (Winter) schedules when doing your planning. There have been a number of changes to times and days of certain extra-murals, especially school run extra-murals in order to accommodate sport as well as choirs and Marimbas.

GALA SWIMMING: U8, U9 and U10

Please note that there will be no swimming training on Tuesday, 15 November at the RGHS pool due to the Board function at school.

SCHOOL RUN EXTRA-MURALS: GRADE 3 – 7

Please note that during Terms 1 and 4 there is a compulsory Sport Hour for all Grade 3 – 7 pupils.  The Grade 3 lesson takes place during the school day, but the Grade 4 -7 takes place from 14.30 – 15.30. This falls away in Terms 2 and 3 in order to accommodate the winter sports.

It is compulsory for all girls from Grade 3-7 to do at least one winter sport, but both hockey and netball is encouraged as we enter 2 teams into the leagues and must have enough players to fill these teams.

Cross country training is compulsory for all Grade 3-7 pupils and this takes place during second break on Wednesdays.  We will be asking for parents to volunteer to be marshals at this time to keep our girls safe on the road.  Further info will go out nearer the time.

There will be a hired bus to take the Grade 4-7 hockey players to practice on Tuesdays at WPCC.  This is during the school day. Parents then collect directly from WPCC at 14.45.

There will also be a hired bus to take the Grade 5 -7 girls to netball practice on Monday afternoons at RGHS.  Parents then collect directly from RGHS at 16.00.

COMPULSORY SPORT HOUR DAYS AND TIMES 2023

  • Grade 3:  Tuesdays         13.30 – 14.30
  • Grade 4:  Thursdays       14.30 – 15.30
  • Grade 5:  Mondays         14.30 – 15.30
  • Grade 6:  Wednesdays   14.30 – 15.30
  • Grade 7:  Tuesdays         14.30 – 15.30

PRIVATELY RUN EXTRA-MURALS: ALL GRADES

All information with regards to the private extra-murals on offer are available on the Edana App under Documentation.  Please liaise directly with the extra-mural providers.

For Grade 00, Grade 0 and Grade 1 and Grade 2, many of the private extra-mural providers do a demo lesson during the school day at the start of the term so the girls will get the chance to experience what is on offer.

We are very excited to introduce a new extra-mural, Sport Hub which offers a multi-sport programme aimed at ensuring competence in our pupils.  They run a structured programme starting with Grade 00s and Grade 0s and then Grade 1, 2 and 3s.  It is a build on from Playball and will be an excellent extra-mural especially for our Grade 0, 1 and 2 pupils.

We have also added Yoga and the Christian Club to our extra-mural programme.

HOLIDAY CLUB – GRADES 3-7

Sandi Blackbeard and Emma Bergstedt will once again be running ‘The Great Summer Holiday Club’ from Thursday, 8 December until Tuesday, 13 December with outings to the Rollercade at Battery Park in the Waterfront, the Muizenberg Water Slides and The Clay Café.  Places are limited.  Flyers with all the information will be handed out on Monday 14 November with reply slips attached.  We look forward to entertaining your daughters for a few days!

Our swimmers are doing themselves proud at the Friday galas! Last week we swam at St Cyprians and Splash, our swimming mascot was there for all the action too!
Congratulations to Sophia Trout who competed in the CTA Level 2 Championships last weekend and won 2 gold medals, 1 silver and 1 bronze medal in the 50m, 100m and 200m breaststroke and backstroke.

weekly snapshots

Well done to Dani O’Ryan for her beautiful piano solo in junior assembly this week.
We were very impressed with the musical performances in senior assembly by Jamie Henchie on Piano and Leilah Joseph on Recorder. Well done girls!

Grades 5 and 6 enjoyed a magical evening dancing with their dads! The daughters proudly shuffled along with their fathers, with only a few toes injured in the process. A special time was had by all, busting a move and picnicking on pizza.

A poem celebrating what makes Micklefield a special place. Written by Jessica Walford (Gr3).

Our new girls and families were welcomed to Micklefield this week. The Grade 6s were very excited to step into the role of Big Girls and make the Little Girls feel part of the family. Thank you to the Grade 00 parents for providing such a delicious spread!
