SPORT & EXTRA-MURALS

The updated 2024 sport and extra-mural programme is available on the Edana App, under Documentation.  Please check both the Term 1 and 4 (Summer) and the Term 2 and 3 (Winter) schedules when doing your planning. All information with regards to the private extra-murals on offer is available on the Edana App under Documentation, Sport/Extra-murals.  Please liaise directly with the extra-mural providers.

When we teach children “everyone wins” all the time, we’re handicapping their development. That doesn’t mean we should teach “win at all costs”, it means we should teach children that “life is sometimes hard, so if you lose you need to get up, dust yourself off, continue to practice and earn it.”
– The reformed sports project

TERM 2 AND 3 WINTER SPORT

A very important information letter went home last term with all the relevant information with regards to winter sport.  It is also available on the Edana App.  The winter terms are busy with netball, hockey and cross country practices as well as matches/races.  There are a lot of moving parts so it is very important to please follow the schedule and the fixtures.  Match venues can only be confirmed the week before the match and will appear in the Friday newsletter.  Please respect the coaches selection of teams for each week as they will move players around as and when they are ready.  If you have any queries, please direct them to Sandi Blackbeard and not with the coaches directly.

Hockey, netball and cross country fixtures went home this week in a hard copy form, they are also available on the Edana App, Documents, Sport/Extra-Murals.

Please note that Chess Club is being held on Monday mornings in the Library from 07.00 – 07.45 for Grade 1-7 pupils.  Mathletics Club is now only on a Wednesday morning in the IT Room from 07.15 – 07.45 for Grade 3-7 pupils.

The Micklefield ethos believes in “enabling full participation in cultural and sporting activities, realising full individual potential and emphasising excellence in a caring environment.” To this end, we have made it possible to include all our girls in our sporting program. During the winter season, all girls who attend netball and hockey practices will have the opportunity to play matches. However, the A team will consist of the stronger players, while the B team will rotate their players, maintaining the core players each week, so as to give everyone a chance to participate. The coaches are aware that players improve with time and practice, so players will be moved around if necessary. In other words, no team is “cast in stone.”

Please be aware that all our coaches will be out there, doing their best to ensure that your daughter learns, plays and enjoys her sport!

Please support the coaches and address any queries you may have, to Sandi Blackbeard, the Head of Sport.
