Fundraising

We would like to thank the Micklefield family for all their fundraising efforts in Term 1. Have a look at the thermometer alongside for how far we are towards our goal towards the purchase of the first bus! We are presently looking at leasing options as well, so watch this space!

We are forming a fundraising committee, please contact Joanne Tudhope  joanne@micklefield.co.za if you are interested to find out more.

Theo hendrickse bursary fund

The second-hand uniform Shop has raised R 21,148.00 this year thus far. Thank you to Kim Sheard for so ably running this initiative. All proceeds of the uniform shop go towards the Theo Hendrickse Bursary Fund which was started in 2012 by the Hendrickse family in honour of past parent Theo Hendrickse. The purpose of this fund is to assist deserving pupil/s to attend Micklefield School. Should you wish to make a donation towards this fund, please contact Joanne Tudhope.

gail petersen

One of our support staff ladies, Gail Petersen, has decided to pursue other endeavours. We would like to thank her for her years of service to Micklefield and wish her everything of the best for the future.

BUS #1 FUNDRAISING

Gr 4-7 Madagascar rehearsals

There is a great deal of excitement and anticipation permeating the school as rehearsals for Madagascar are now up and running! In order to have as little impact on out of school hours as we can, we will be making use of our Drama and Class music lessons to ensure polished performances by our Grade 4-7 girls. We know that this is going to be a fabulous collaborative musical event. Mrs Smith, Mrs Gildenhuys and Mrs Jubber are hard at work, and, under their expert guidance, the girls are already singing, reciting, dancing, and becoming the characters that they will be playing. Roll on opening night!

The Foundation Phase assembly focus for this week was: What is GRIT?

Sometimes we have to do hard things but, if we tackle them with PERSISTENCE and RESILIENCE we can accomplish anything. The girls gave many examples of difficult things that they have had to do and how they have overcome challenges because the outcome was worthwhile. Riding a bike, running a race or solving a difficult Maths problem, were just some of their examples. Micklefield girls CAN do hard things!

WINTER SPORT PROGRAMME

Please see the Edana App under Documents, Sport/Extra-Murals for the letter with all the winter sports information and dates.  In order for the programme to run smoothly and efficiently, please follow the info on the letter.  There are a lot of logistics and many outside coaches so we need your support in making sure your daughters are at their sport practice and match correctly.

Fixtures lists for both hockey and netball are available on the Edana App.  Please be aware that the venues for netball and hockey matches are finalised between the two schools nearer the actual fixture.  Schools need to establish what facilities are available at each school and it also depends on whether the fixture has been allocated as a home or away match for each particular school.  The exact time of the matches and venues will be on the team sheets that will be sent via the class Whatsapp every Monday after practice for Netball and every Tuesday after practice for Hockey.

SPORT FOCUS

We are encouraging our girls to get fitter – in this way they will be better all round sports people.  Our netball and hockey practices are too short to do fitness and most other schools are doing fitness in the morning before school!  We are only doing one cross-country practice on a Wednesday so we would like to encourage and motivate both our girls and parents to support us in getting fitter.

Please see under Documentation – Sport & Extra-Murals – how you can go about entering and getting involved in the parkrun/walk. If the girls participate in a parkrun/walk, they are to let their class teacher know on a Monday and they will be allocated 10 House points.

WEEKLY SNAPSHOT

Term 1 Lion Inside Award: Amy Carlson

The Lion Inside Award, initiated by Jeannette Welgemoed in 2022, is a termly award, recognising the values and attitudes that we encourage at Micklefield.  Each term, the teachers are on the lookout for girls who, not only, uphold the Micklefield values, but also show bravery, courage and respect by standing up for what is right.

In Term 1, 2023, the recipient of the Lion Inside Award went to Amy Carlson in Grade 6. Amy is guided by a strong moral compass, and will confidently express how she feels about an injustice and speak up if the need arises.  She also recognises strengths in others and is quick to compliment and give credit where it is due.

Foundation Phase ARTIST OF THE WEEK: Katie Brien (Gr 1)
Intermediate Phase ARTIST OF THE WEEK: Joanna Twycross (Gr5)
