We have noticed that many of the girls from Grade 1 – 7 are arriving after 07.55 which means they are late for school. The first lesson starts at 07.55 and it is very disruptive for the teacher and other pupils when a child arrives late. The school is officially open from 07.15 so please ensure that your daughters are on time.
Please note the School Shop at Bishops’ operating hours for the forthcoming Easter weekend:
The winter sport/extra-mural programme is available on the Edana App under Documentation, Sport/Extra-murals. A hard copy went home each pupil last term and it has also been sent out on the Whatsapp groups. Please keep the hard copy information in an accessible place and refer to it for the relevant information.
Fixture lists for both hockey and netball were sent home this week with all pupils from Grade 3 -7. They were also sent out on the Whatsapp groups. They are also available on the Edana App under Documents, Sport/Extra-Murals. Please note that each week all the information and team lists for that particular week will be sent out after the practices for the matches taking place that week.
We are aware that we have all been out of ‘competitive sport’ for a while due to Covid, but during this time, Micklefield continued with skills and worked on fitness. We are, however, seeing a major lack of fitness in all our girls and in order to play competitively, we need to up our game in a big way. Fitness is the key to all our sport, it is a power and not a punishment! If the girls are fit, the skills are easier to implement and this leads to enjoyable game time! To this end, please support us in getting our girls fit and match ready. Please do not excuse them from sport practices or cross-country sessions unless it is a genuine illness or injury.
Tuesday, 19 April:
Thursday, 21 April
Extra-mural hockey for Grade 1 starts on Monday, 25 April and for Grade 2 on Wednesday, 20 April and Thursday, 21 April respectively.
Monday, 18 April – Public Holiday
Wednesday, 20 April:
It is compulsory for all Grade 3 – 7 girls to do Cross Country during second break on Wednesdays during the 2nd and 3rd terms. For this to work safely, we need parents as marshals on the route. The time is from 12.45 – approximately 13.30, sometimes earlier. If you are able to assist or are able to ride a bicycle alongside the runners, please contact Sandi Blackbeard. It is important for our girls to be fit in order to play their sport, but their safety is paramount.
The first cross-country practice is on Wednesday, 20 April.
Congratulations to Lyndsey Philipps in Grade 6 who represented WP at the Nationals in Bloemfontein during the holidays, finishing 29th overall, an outstanding achievement!
Jeanne-Marie Engelbrecht will be back at Micklefield to do impressions for those who would like custom made mouth guards for hockey. These are not compulsory, but are available for those who would like to have them made. They are more expensive than the shop bought gum guards and are geared for the older girls. Please complete the form, hard copies are available from Reception.
Please ensure that payment is made directly to Jeanne-Marie and that your daughter brings her form to school by Friday, 22 April.
Please note that the Marimba groups will practice as follows:
This will start on Friday, 22 April in the Multifunction Room from 07.20 – 07.55. This is for any interested girls in Grade 2 and Grade 3, No auditions will be held. We do not do auditions at this age and prefer to allow all those who are interested to participate, hence we can only accommodate the two grades at this stage.
Drama is back in full swing.
Well done to our Open A hockey girls who went on tour to Knysna at the end of last term. They were good ambassadors for Micklefield both on and off the field. They played 11 matches over the 3 days and competed well against tough opposition, learning and improving with each match. PIC
Grade 4 had a fun Maths morning creating Shape Books using objects found around the school.
Grade 5s having fun with their new Maths Visualisation and Shape Construction kits!
There was great excitement in the Foundation Phase on Thursday … the Easter Bunny popped in for a visit and and the Foundation Phase playground became the perfect setting for an Easter Egg Hunt!
Wishing all our Christian families a blessed Easter and our Jewish families Chag Pesach Sameach!
