2023 Sport & Extra-Mural Programme

The 2023 sport and extra-mural programme is available on the Edana App, under Documentation.  Please check both the Term 1 and 4 (Summer) and the Term 2 and 3 (Winter) schedules when doing your planning.

PRIVATELY RUN EXTRA-MURALS: ALL GRADES (00 – 7)

All information with regards to the private extra-murals on offer are available on the Edana App under Documentation, Sport/Extra-murals.  Please liaise directly with the extra-mural providers.

TENNIS LESSONS:

For private tennis lessons, please find the BVTS Micklefield Tennis Academy information in the Adana App under Documentation, Sport/Extra-murals.  We are wanting one coaching style for our girls so we can build our teams to be strong and competitive.

WINTER SPORT PROGRAMME

Please see the Edana App under Documents, Sport/Extra-Murals for the letter with all the winter sports information and dates.  In order for the programme to run smoothly and efficiently, please follow the info on the letter.  There are a lot of logistics and many outside coaches so we need your support in making sure your daughters are at their sport practice and match correctly.

Fixtures lists for both hockey and netball have been sent home with all Grade 3-7 pupils this week.  These are also available on the Edana App.  Please be aware that the venues for netball and hockey matches are finalised between the two schools nearer the actual fixture.  Schools need to establish what facilities are available at each school and it also depends on whether the fixture has been allocated as a home or away match for each particular school.  The exact time of the matches and venues will be on the team sheets that will be sent via the class Whatsapp every Monday after practice for Netball and every Tuesday after practice for Hockey.

NETBALL CLINICS:

We will be running the following compulsory netball clinics.  All girls who play netball need to attend their specific Saturday.  Our practices are not long enough to incorporate all that the girls need to learn.  These clinics are incredibly helpful as the girls also get introduced to new drills and work on different aspects of the game.

Saturday, 20 May: U10 and U11 – At Micklefield from 08.30 – 10.30

Congratulations to our fabulous Micklefield teachers who took to the Two Oceans route on Saturday and Sunday last weekend! Alison Smith ran the 56km Ultra Marathon and is now preparing for The Comrades! Gail Fargher and Belinda Gordon completed the 21km race on Sunday! Well done, ladies!
Congratulations to Katie Featherstone (Class of 2021) who is once again represented WP in the U15 Inter-Provincial Tournament held in Pretoria. Katie started playing competitively in Grade 5 (U11) - pic above It is great to follow our Micklefield girls’ progress.

Micklefield launched our Sport Focus Year  with Mr Murray Anderson, an Olympian and Springbok Hockey player and teacher at Bishops Prep. Amongst many other international matches and achievements, Murray played in the Summer Olympics in 1996. He inspired our Gr 3-7 girls to train hard, to give of their best, to push beyond their comfort zone, to always be a team player and above all, enjoy their participation in Sport.

weekly snapshots

The Grade 3s had a fantastic adventure in Strandfontein Bird Sanctuary. They took great delight in putting their knowledge into practice, easily identifying all the birds they had learned about. An enormous ‘thank you’ to all the parents who were able to take us on a game drive around the ponds to spot the birds.

As a lead up to World Book Day (Sunday, 23rd April) our foundation phase girls enjoyed a fun and interactive visit by local author, Kayla Diamond.
Kayla’s visit included her reading one of her picture books, Glow, getting everyone to do the jellyfish jiggle and giving us some good ideas to finally start writing that book. The visit ended with all the girls examining both their outer glow (a quick peek into Kayla’s mirror) as well as their inner glow.

Grade 00s – 3s were treated to an amazing show: Wanda the Musical, performed by a talented cast from the Ticket to The Moon Youth Theatre Company. Relevant themes such as bullying, girl power and loving yourself for who you are, were woven into the show in a vibrant and entertaining way. What a treat in the first week of  Term 2!
