Micklefield Blankets

Due to the success and demand we are opening up the orders again for you to purchase one of the beautiful Micklefield branded grey, soft, flannel fleece blankets (125cm x 150cm) which are ideal for the chilly winter weather. The blankets can be purchased for R195 each.  Should you wish the blanket to be personalised with your daughters name, an additional charge of R40 per blanket will be added. PLEASE NOTE:  There is limited stock available, and orders will close once we have reached our limit.

Please support this fundraising initiative and complete the  Micklefield Blanket Order Form by Wednesday, 26 July 2023.

Here are some guidelines  for the use of the Micklefield blankets at school:

  • Girls are to carry their blanket when entering the school i.e not draped or wrapped around themselves
  • Break time – blankets should remain in the classroom
  • Early morning – the blankets can be used on the playground
  • For those who do not have a Micklefield blanket, a plain grey or pink may be brought to school 

BLING DAY – 29 August 2023

Welcome back to school – we do hope you have been collecting your coins during the holidays! Grade 3s are in the lead and have issued the challenge to the other classes – their aim is to collect the most coins and to make an amazing creative Birthday design with their coins. Remember the class with the most creative, fun design on the day will be rewarded with a surprise treat. Get collecting and bring your small change (10c, 20c, 50x, R1, R2 & R5 coins) everyday to school and pop into your class Bling Day Jar. All proceeds go to our Bursary Fund.

MySchool MyVillage My Planet

Thank you to all the Micklefield supporters who continue to swipe their MySchool or WW Cards. R5216 was raised in the month of June which brings us to a total of  R36 787 raised this year so far through this fantastic fundraising initiative.

SPORT FOCUS

The life-long bond with team mates and coaches and the life lessons learned through the ups and downs of competition are what makes sports a must for all our youth.  Children need sports because sports teach life!

NETBALL

Monday, 24 July

  • U9s practice at Micklefield from 14.30 – 15.30
  • U10s practice at Micklefield from 14.30 – 15.30
  • U11s practice at RGHS from 14.30 – 16.00
  • U12s practice at RGHS from 14.30 – 16.00
  • U13s practice at RGHS from 14.30 – 16.00

Wednesday, 26 July – Festivals at various venues

  • U9 A and B at Grove Primary – leave school at 14.20
  • U10 A and B at Fish Hoek primary – leave school at 13.45
  • U11 A and B at Wynberg Girls’ Junior – leave school at 14.15
  • U12 A and B at Rustenburg Grotto Road courts (next to the pool) – leave school at 14.20
  • U13 A and B at Springfield Junior – leave school at 14.15

Each of the venue schools are hosting a festival for each of the age groups so each team will play 3 matches over the course of the afternoon.  The matches start at 15.00 and will finish at 17.00.  The games are 12 minutes each, one way only and rolling substitution is allowed.  Directions and any further info will be sent out with the team sheets after practice on Monday.

U9 HOCKEY FESTIVAL AND U11 TOURNAMENT

As per the fixtures, there is an U9 hockey festival taking place on Friday, 4 August at Herschel from approximately 12.30 – 16.00.

Following on from this will be the U11 Twilight Tournament also at the Herschel Astro from 16.00 – approximately 21.30.  Exact teams and details will be sent out nearer the time.

CROSS COUNTRY GRADE 1 – 7

Cross country training for Grade 1 and Grade 2 has started.  They will be running out of the school grounds from Wednesday, 26 July.  Grade 1 and Grade 2 Parents who are able to assist with marshalling should have returned their reply slips already, but if there are still more Parents who are available, please let Sandi Blackbeard know. The  Cross country training for Grade 3 – 7 starts on Wednesday,26 July.  The race on Friday, 28 July is at Fish Hoek Primary.  Please see the details that will go out via the class Whatsapp group.

FUN RUN/WALK AT THE PINELANDS ATHLETIC CLUB

We are challenging all our girls and Micklefield families to join the staff in a fun run/walk on Sunday, 30 July 2023 starting at the Pinelands Athletic Club, lower oval, off Forest Drive.  Please see the flyer and enter your families online. House points are up for grabs for all those who participate!

Entry fees:

  • 10km: Adults : licensed: R90, unlicensed R135 . Children:  licensed: R55, unlicensed: R80
  • 5km: R40 per person

Please note that no cash will be taken for on-the-day entries, only snapscan and a limited card payment facility will be available. The 10km starts at 07.30 and the 5km at 07.45

NETBALL WORLD CUP: FRI, 28 JULY – SUN, 6 AUGUST

South Africa is hosting the World Cup Netball at the CTICC from Friday, 28 July – Sunday, 6 August.  The matches will be televised by Super Sport so please encourage your girls to watch as many matches as possible.  The matches take place at 9am, 11am, 4pm 6pm and 8pm.  South Africa’s first match is after the Opening Ceremony on Friday, 28 July at 4pm against Wales.  They play again on Saturday, 29 July at 4pm vs Sri Lanka and their last pool match is against Jamaica at 6pm on Sunday, 30 July. For those who are lucky enough to go and watch any matches live, please send us a picture or two!

TENNIS LESSONS:

The Teachers and Grade 7s got into Netball World Cup spirit by kicking off the season with a lively netball match. The Grade 7s were victorious by 6 goals to 4!
