Weekly updates

The Micklefield Birthday Beanie Challenge is on! We challenge the Micklefield Community to knit or crochet 94 beanies (at least) for underprivileged teenagers at Bridges Retreat Centre, Franschhoek. Help us grow this pile!
Thank you Mrs Gordon for you generous donation of wool and knitting needles to get the staff going! The staffroom is abuzz with knitting tips and swopping of patterns!

ARRIVAL AT SCHOOL

Please note that from Monday, 25 July, the hall doors will close at 07.55 when Grade 1-7 classes start.  The Grade 00s and Grade 0s who arrive after that can still use the stop and drop, but the girls must enter through the main gate in Wood Road where Theo is on duty.  Just a reminder that Grade 1-7 classes start at 07.55 so all pupils should be at school before this time as it is very disruptive when pupils arrive late and interrupt the first lesson of the day.  Only the Grade 00 and Grade 0 classes start at 08.15.

In order to keep the stop and go moving, please treat it like a ‘stop and go’ otherwise a traffic jam is caused.  If you need to sort anything for your daughter, please park and then walk them to the entrance.

SENIOR CHOIR (Grade 4 – 7)

As of Monday, 25 July, the Senior Choir practice will revert to being held before school and not at break time on Mondays.  The Senior Choir will therefore practice every Monday in the hall from 07.45 – 08.25.  While the choir is practising, the rest of the pupils in Grade 4-7 will do General Knowledge in their classrooms (07.55-08.25).

UNIFORMS

As of Monday, 25 July, girls from Grade 1-7 may either wear their correct sports uniform or their correct formal uniform.  On Fridays, all girls from Grade 3-7 must wear their formal uniform.  During the week, if your daughter has Phys Ed or a sport practice or match, she must wear her sport uniform, but if she does not, she must wear her formal uniform.  We will no longer be mixing the sport uniform with the formal uniform.  Our girls need to wear either uniform with pride, smartly and correctly.  The same goes for their hair which needs to be neatly tied back if it is shoulder length.  Only hair colour, pink, grey or white alice-bands may be worn and clips must be hair colour/neutral.  Only stud earrings must be worn as this is a safety issue.  No make-up may be worn to school.

Sports uniform:

  • Tracksuit pants or shorts with either the sleeveless sports top or white golf shirt, the tracksuit top and/or fleece, short white socks and appropriate takkies.

Formal uniform:

  • Grey skirt and pink shirt, the Micklefield cardigan or v-neck jersey with either long grey socks or stockings with the brown school shoes.
  • The cardigan or jersey may not be worn with the sports uniform and the tracksuit top or fleece may not be worn with the formal uniform.

Please support us in ensuring that your daughter is neatly and correctly dressed. We are aware of the cold days in winter and are looking into the option of grey trousers for the girls.  Once this is finalised, information will be sent out.

SECOND-HAND UNIFORM SALE

Thank you to Alison Hayes for running these termly sales so efficiently. In an effort to accommodate working parents, we are going to adjust the sales times to 13:00-14:30 and 16:00-17:00. The fantastic amount of R3267 was raised, all proceeds go towards the Bursary Fund. There will be one more sale towards the end of the term, the date to be confirmed.

COMMITMENT TO SPORT

We are trying to raise the level of our sport at Micklefield in order to compete competitively against our opposition schools, but in order to do this, we need all the girls at practice unless they are genuinely ill.  If this is the case, Sandi Blackbeard must be informed.  Over the past term, there has been a lack of commitment and that some of our girls are offering the bare minimum, but still want results.  Unfortunately, we need ‘buy-in’ from both the players and parents so that we can achieve to the best of our ability.

LOST PROPERTY

There is a mound of unmarked lost property from Term 2. It will be put out under the big tree from Monday 25 July – Thursday 28 July for parents to have a look through. All unclaimed items will be donated at the end of next week. Please ensure that your uniform items are marked as marked lost property is returned to their owners.

sport & extra murals

The winter sport/extra-mural programme is available on the Edana App under Documentation, Sport/Extra-murals. Fixture lists for both hockey and netball for the third term are available on the Adana App under Documents, Sport/Extra-Murals.  Please note that each week all the information and team lists for that particular week will be sent out after the practices for the matches taking place that week. Please also be aware that cross country races are now returning on Fridays in the 3rd term.  These fixtures are also available under Documents.

CROSS COUNTRY GRADE 1 – 7

Our Grade 3-7 girls practice Cross Country every Wednesday during second break and the Grade 1 and Grade 2 classes practice during the school day on Wednesdays.  This term we will be organizing to run the Grade 1 and Grade 2 girls outside of the school – details with regards to that will follow.

This term there will be Cross Country races taking place every Friday organized by different schools at different venues.  Details for each week will be made available as soon as they are received from the organizing school.

The first race is on Friday, 29 July, hosted by Bishops at Keurboom Park.  Whilst this is voluntary, the girls in Grade 4-7 who run in the ‘fast group’ every Wednesday, must participate in at least 2 of the races as they are Micklefield’s Inter-Schools Team and will be participating in the Inter-Schools Competition later in September. Any girls, from Grade 1-7 may participate.

Those girls who choose to participate will need to meet Ms Blackbeard at the venue each Friday at 14.30.  The race times are staggered, starting at 15.00 with the U7s.  Parents of Grade 1 and 2 girls who wish to participate must give their names to Sandi Blackbeard via email or whatsapp by the Thursday of each week.  Girls in Grade 3 – 7 will need to give their names to Ms Blackbeard by the Thursday of each week as name tags need to be prepared.

Please see the information on the Adana App, under Documents, Sport.

The Grade 00s have had a great first week back and have had such fun learning about the 5 Senses!
