SPORT FOCUS – Stress Relief and Mental Health

Giving pupils an outlet like sports provides the opportunity for young people to diversify what is important to them and can help relieve some of the pressure and stress that can accompany academics. These rigors of academic life, even at the primary level, can often lead to stress and anxiety among pupils. Engaging in sports provides another outlet for releasing pent-up energy and tension. Another Harvard Health article details how physical activity triggers the release of endorphins, often referred to as “feel-good” hormones, which can have a positive impact on mental well-being. Further, sports gives pupils another opportunity to earn success. If a pupil has a poor performance on a test one day, maybe her day can still be good because she has a good day at her sport practice or match. This emotional resilience gained through sports can help pupils handle academic challenges with a clearer mind and a better understanding that one thing (e.g. academics or sports) does not define who they are.

INTER-HOUSE HOCKEY

The U9- Open Inter-House hockey took place on Tuesday, 5 September and Tuesday, 12 September.  The girls showed some great skills and spirit and the results went down to the wire!

The U9 section went down to goal difference to establish 1st and 2nd positions and then overall the 2nd and 3rd positions also had to be decided on goal difference!  Well done to the Robins who finished in 1st place, followed by the Swallows with the Kingfishers in 3rd place.
