SPORT FOCUS – Stress Relief and Mental Health
Giving pupils an outlet like sports provides the opportunity for young people to diversify what is important to them and can help relieve some of the pressure and stress that can accompany academics. These rigors of academic life, even at the primary level, can often lead to stress and anxiety among pupils. Engaging in sports provides another outlet for releasing pent-up energy and tension. Another Harvard Health article details how physical activity triggers the release of endorphins, often referred to as “feel-good” hormones, which can have a positive impact on mental well-being. Further, sports gives pupils another opportunity to earn success. If a pupil has a poor performance on a test one day, maybe her day can still be good because she has a good day at her sport practice or match. This emotional resilience gained through sports can help pupils handle academic challenges with a clearer mind and a better understanding that one thing (e.g. academics or sports) does not define who they are.
The U9- Open Inter-House hockey took place on Tuesday, 5 September and Tuesday, 12 September. The girls showed some great skills and spirit and the results went down to the wire!
The U9 section went down to goal difference to establish 1st and 2nd positions and then overall the 2nd and 3rd positions also had to be decided on goal difference! Well done to the Robins who finished in 1st place, followed by the Swallows with the Kingfishers in 3rd place.
The first early morning training will start on Wednesday, 11 October followed by the Grade 4 group on Friday, 13 October. The Monday group will start on Monday, 16 October. Fixtures start on Thursday, 19 October.
Please see the link for tennis clinics with BVTS in the holidays: BVTS Tennis Clinic Sign-up Form
The first gala training will take place on Tuesday, 17 October as follows:
Any girls who would like to try out for the gala squad must attend these first practices.
The compulsory Sports Hour resumes in Term 4 from Monday, 16 October. There will be no Sport Hour for the first week of school, except for the Grade 3s whose Sport Hour is during the school day.
The private extra-mural service providers normally offer 8 lessons per term, starting in the second week of term and ending in the second last week. The 4th term is however shorter so some private extra-murals might only have 7 lessons or some might start in the first week back. They have been asked to liaise directly with you, but if you are unsure, please check with them directly.
Budding Entrepreneurs. Grade 2s representing Micklefield at the Kidpreneurs fair. Well done girls!
Grade 4s teaching Grade 1s about Bar Graphs!
This term the Grade 5s received their Oxford readers and implemented reading groups right away. The readers range across various levels so each group reads according to their level and work their way up throughout all the levels.
Grade 4s all brought soft toys to school to practise CPR as part of their Junior Medics course.
Bravo to the cast, crew, staff and everyone involved in making our Gr 4-7 Madagascar Musical such a resounding success. It was an incredible showcase of musical, dramatic, and dancing talent coming together in this wonderful celebration of the arts.
