Sport & extra-murals

SPORT FOCUS

Nutritional tips to keep you going the whole day long:

  • BREAKFAST boosts your energy levels and sets your metabolism up for the day. Eating breakfast improvs memory, alertness, concentration, problem-solving ability, test scores, school attendance, and mood.
  • SNACKS: Fruit and veggies are delicious, and children often prefer raw to cooked vegetables. Small cheese and vegetable or fruit skewers with a tasty dip are great for in-between meals.
  • LUNCH: Since most children consume one-third of their daily calories at their midday meal, a nutritious lunch would typically include: fruit, vegetables, grains, meat, and dairy.
  • SUPER SNACKS for super performance: Snacks such as nuts, biltong, dried fruit, or yoghurt will help boost energy levels to keep them going right through sports practice and matches.
  • WATER: Being well hydrated improves mood, memory, and attention in children. Having a pretty, refillable water bottle at school every day can help with water intake.
  • DIVIDE & CONQUER: Having food in different containers for different times of the day can help children regulate their intake. Eating all their food at first break is not beneficial for the rest of the day. Dividing food up into separate containers will help to ensure that they eat food throughout the day, which will help to sustain energy levels throughout the day.

Please see on the Edana App under Documents – Sport & Extra-Murals, for an extract of Sophie Burchell’s sport oral which she presented to the Grade 6 class this week.

Saturday, 3 June:

  • U9s at Micklefield from 08.30 – 10.30

weekly snapshots

The Grade 2s and Mrs Meredith introduced the Foundation Phase girls to the recipe one can follow to be a GOOD FRIEND in Monday's assembly.

A good friend is:

  • A jar of kindness,
  • A spoonful of listening,
  • A can of honesty,
  • A tube of trust,
  • A carton of patience,
  • 1kg of forgiveness,
  • A box of encouragement
  • A pot of respect,
  • A bag of loyalty,
  • and a bottle of fun!

INAUGURAL Gr 4-7 SCIENCE EXPO

Research projects of an exceptionally high standard were on display at our inaugural Gr 4-7 Science Expo this week. With Sustainability as the theme, the aim was to enable our girls to acquire an understanding of our natural environment and the impact that our actions have on the world. Through their own investigation and enquiry, it is hoped that the girls have come to appreciate that the small changes we make as individuals, connect to a much larger plan. Well done to the teachers and girls!

Debbie Nunneley and Bridget Vomacka were privileged to attend the ISASA ECD conference earlier this week.

It was so wonderful to connect with teachers from all over the country from different types of independent schools. It is encouraging to see what a difference people are making in our country. In the beautiful setting of Bridge House school in Franschhoek we participated in workshops and discussions and came away feeling inspired.
