SPORT FOCUS

4 WAYS TO BE A MODEL SPORTS PARENT TO YOUR CHILD

  1. SHOW SUPPORT – nothing means more to a child than mom and dad being there to support them emotionally, financially, and logistically. Attend as many of their games as you can, this shows them that you care. When you are there, be present, pay attention to their game rather than being on your phone.
  2. PROVIDE POSITIVE FEEDBACK – being part of a team can increase a child’s self-worth. Showing empathy after a tough loss is a great way to teach your child how to deal with adversity. Winning and losing graciously is most important. When your child shows excitement about a sport, encourage them in their sporting journey.
  3. BE REALISTIC – not every child will become a professional athlete. Regardless of a child’s sporting success, there are many life lessons to be learnt from participating in sport – learning to win and lose, building relationships with your team mates, learning from coaches and showing respect to them. Always encourage your child to give of their best, be the best version of themselves that they can be. Some children develop later in life while others peek earlier, but skills can always be improved.
  4.  LEAVE COACHING TO THE COACHES– Cheer for the team, not just your child. We are the Micklefield team, the coaches are the ones to call the players’ names individually, so that the player hears the clear instruction from the coach, not the parent! Applaud for both teams, the opposition as well as our own team, whether it is a win or a loss! Always be courteous and polite when talking about umpires and other officials.  They are giving up their time and sharing their expertise.  Always approach the Head of Sport if you have any issues, not the coach directly.

Congratulations to Carrie Killops on a magnificent performance as goal keeper against Herschel on Thursday 27 July. She was under fire with balls coming in all directions and she did a sterling job in saving many of them. She received a certificate in assembly for her outstanding goalie skills.

Coach Jade has returned from the Youth Atlantic Touch Rugby World Cup in Nottingham where she was a Referee for the Federation of International Touch, at the World Cup held from 20-23 July 2023. This has been a huge honour and experience for Jade, and the Micklefield family are super proud of her.

weekly snapshots

FOUNDATION PHASE ARTIST OF THE WEEK: Thea Boers (Gr 2)
INTERMEDIATE PHASE ARTIST OF THE WEEK: Kruti Chhiba (Gr 5)
DAY & NIGHT: The girls in Grade 5 had fun learning about the Earths rotation and how different parts of the world experience day and night within a 24 hour period. The girls worked in groups to get comfortable with the concepts and the science behind day, night, seasons and a 365 day cycle.
The Grade 4s exercise their collaboration and communication skills as they use block coding to code their "ships" to navigate along a route of their own design!
Micklefield’s newly formed string ensemble made their debut performance in assembly this week. Arranged and conducted by our talented music teacher, Nikki Fyvie, the girls performed “Cap ‘n Jack’s Hornpipe”. Bravo to our musicians on a sterling performance!
