WEEKLY SNAPSHOT

Grade 2s doing unplugged outdoor coding
The Grades 7s investigating acids, bases and neutrals.

 Manganese Mines

The Grade 5s were courageous as we followed our guide, Wendy Hitchcock, and hiked up to the Manganese mines in Houtbay. Knowledge became real when we could touch, see and climb the mountains from which manganese was mined many years ago.

Congratulations to Rasheed Hargey, Amanah Ebrahim’s grandad who has completed 250 Parkruns!  Rasheed kindly helps us marshal the Grade 2 cross country and then returns at second break on a Wednesday to ride his bike with the Grade 3-7 fast group cross country runners.  Rasheed travels to run marathons globally and recently completed the 2 Oceans Half marathon.  Thank you for being an inspiration, we salute you!

We were very fortunate to host the author and illustrator, Adrienne Wright, as a fitting start to our celebrations for World Book Day. Her incredible mixed media graphic novel Hector is a heartbreaking legacy to Hector Pieterson, who was tragically killed during what was supposed to be a peaceful protest by students and scholars on 16 June, 1976. Our Grade 4 to 7 girls were captivated by Hector’s story and Adrienne’s explanation of why and how she went about getting this important story told. Hector is now available in our library.

INTERSEN PHASE ARTIST OF THE WEEK: Dani O’Ryan (Grade 4)
